About The VCA NGDC
VIZSLA CLUB OF AMERICA
NATIONAL GUN DOG CHAMPIONSHIP
The VCA Walking Gun Dog Championship is the only hour
AKC Vizsla national event for field trials. It is also a walking handled only event. Chauncey Smith is the "idea" man & pivotal in the initiation of the event. So far retrieving has been a part of the course & no callbacks. At its inception the NGDC was unique in that AKC Master Hunters could also be considered eligible to compete. There have been little more of a handful of MH's actually competing in the walking championship. However the 2007 NGDC winner was originally discovered at an AKC Hunt Test. Somebody said "You know? You ought to go run that dog at field trials. I think they'd like him."

FOR NATIONAL VCA FIELD EVENTS DOGS MUST
QUALIFY ON LINE (QOL)
(Read below)
Breed Standard Qualification
VCA National Gun Dog Championship
All Vizslas running in the National Gun Dog Championship and Open Puppy stake must be free of any disqualifying faults as stated in the vizsla standard recognized by the American Kennel Club.
To comply with this requirement an AKC Licensed judge will examine the dogs in this competition & be found minimally acceptable (no DQ faults). All dogs except for those dogs with a permanent qualification number entered in this trial will be examined prior to the running in the stake in which they are entered. Examination will take place in the field trial grounds in a private location selected by the Field Trial Committee.
It is the responsibility of the owner/handler to present his/her dog for evaluation.
Procedure for Dogs with Permanent Qualification
The Permanent Qualification Number must be included on entry form. Dogs with permanent qualification are qualified for all future VCA field events even if disqualifications in the standard for the Vizsla breed change. Dogs that qualify when less than 24 months of age do not have permanent qualifications & are not qualified for future VCA field events.
The Vizsla Standard recognized by the American Kennel Club
states the following disqualifications;
- Completely black nose
- Solid white extending above the toes or white anywhere else on the dog except the fore chest
- White extending on the shoulders or neck
- A distinctly long coat
- Males over 25-1/2 inches or under 20-1/2 inches in height
- (Height measurements are taken at the highest point over the shoulder blades)
- Females over 24-1/2 inches or under 19-1/2 inches in height
