Brok Olca HOF Pedigree, An Artform by dlb
"Brok Olca HOF" was the first Vizsla to be imported to the US with a five-generation pedigree (SPKP Slovakian Registry). His blood was claimed to be priceless & filled with the very best that Magyar Vizslas from Europe had to offer since 1920. Brok did indeed possess some of the very best traits in the Magyar Vizsla that central Europe had to offer. This could not have been accomplished unless Csibesz I from the Czech Republic registry had not lived until 1952, seven years after WWII.
The Brok Olca HOF pedigree stands proud & was able to successfully be bred from titled dogs or pre-approved Vizslas for many generations AND can prove it with a valid registry studbook. This "performance" tested pedigree was a tremendous testament to Magyar iron-will, whether they lived inside or forced outside of Hungary when it came to re-creating & resurrecting a breed nearly lost forever.... twice.
The amount of inbreeding for the first ten generations of Brok Olca's pedigree is mind-numbing. This is a rather difficult pedigree (at first) to really "understand". But once you realize that the top pedigree IS the pedigree on the four dam tails, the truth of Magyar inbreeding is there to be revealed & known by Magyar Breed Guardians for ninety years. For this pedigree to stay alive it meant that Csibesz I who was famous during the forties needed to still be alive in 1952.
What I can't believe is that Brok Olca's owner let him go, knowing what a phenom he was. Pavel Parsevich, who was Brok's Slovakian owner & breeder sent specific instructions with him to his new owner in Minnesota, USA....Dr Ivan Osborn DVM.
To paraphrase, "Brok Olca's blood & a specific breeding program was crowned as the very best pedigreed Magyar Vizsla that Europe had." Americans were greatly urged to preserve those vital Magyar breed traits. As an "untitled" import, Brok was the only HOFer to be inducted & had most of their glory in the fifties. For the most part it appears that no consideration has been given to taking a longer look at some other fifties Vizslas for Hall of Fame status too.
It would be remiss to not include the exact words of Dr Ivan Osborn DVM about Brok Olca and his Slovakian (SPKP) Registry with its invaluable authentic AND tested pedigrees. The two quoted paragraphs are a part of a fifties article that Osborn wrote & is titled "America's New Golden Gun Dog".
"Upon contacting a colleague at a European College of Veterinary Medicine, we were informed that it was impossible now to find complete pedigree specimens even in iron curtain Hungary, as the records of registration of the Hungarian OVC had been destroyed in the war. They further advised that there was just one studbook in the world that now registered complete pedigreed Vizslas. This studbook was the Czech SPKP, however, breeding specimens would be extremely difficult to obtain as they would have to come from a small section, deep behind the iron curtain, in Southern Czechoslovakia on the north Hungarian border. These Vizslas, as registered with the SPKP, were considered to have considerate breeding advantages in that their specific strains were linebred on a basis of championship field stock. Certain strains were also said to be entirely free of any hereditary faults. "
"My colleague immediately made contact with a refugee Veterinarian, an ex-count refugee and former high official of the SPKP Stud Book and about a year later, in the spring of 1953, they were able to bring out my first complete five-generation stud. This first specimen (Brok Olca) came form 700 km (434 miles) behind the iron curtain, directly from the Puzsta. He was especially linebred on the basis of their best Field Champion bloodlines. His pedigree bore the names of 11 ancestors with the rating of Champion. Among them were Champion Vegvari Betyar, Champion Mira, Champion Ripp, Champion Szirka, and one of the greatest of all time, Champion Leanyvari Barat, his grandsire. This import was classified as very, very sharp and with him were orders that his bold disposition, raggedness and hunting instinct were to be preserved at all costs."
Csibesz I (Brok Olca's sire) from The Czech Republic registry from Czechoslovakia was highly decorated. There were two registries in Czechoslovakia, the Czech Registry who had a double number, single dash format and the letters (CKU-clp) and the Slovakian registry (SPKP-POS). It is likely and not likely the Czech Csibesz is the Orszagos Kennel Club's Csibesz (Hungary on vizsla-k9info.com. He could be double registered or not.
To further the viewpoint of the importance of the potency of linebreeding on multiple generations of inbreeding inside of this particular pedigree, consider this.....
Csibesz being bred to Herta Jandak really meant that Csibesz's exact pedigree was repeated in Herta Jandak's pedigree twice.
Csibesz's sire GY (Champion) Leanyvari Barat who appears in the grandfather pedigree, has his exact pedigree appear four times in Herta Jandak's pedigree.
Csibesz's grand-sire Ficko III appears in Csibesz's pedigree ten times. Csibesz's Ficko's exact pedigree is found in Herta Jandak's pedigree at least sixteen known times.
Csibesz's great grand-sire Rupp, (believed to be part of the 1920 Foundation stock) who is Ficko III's sire appears in Csibesz's pedigree at the very 21 known times (extended pedigrees) and that same pedigree appears in Herta Jandak at least 33 known times (extended pedigrees).
Csibesz's great great grand-sire Ficko XXX (believed to be part of the 1920 Foundation stock AND sire of Rupp 14 & Csitri 73) shows up at 33 times in his pedigree was bred to Herta Jandak who possesses Ficko XXX at least 46 times.
The scenarios of Ficko III, Rupp & Ficko XXX will only grow larger as holes get plugged in & the pedigree tails extended.
(The pedigree information that is below sources from what is believed to be an original Slovakian registry pedigree for Brok Olca HOF. If it conflicts with any other information, it may not be as correct as the authentic Brok Olca pedigree. Nor is this pedigree free of error as will be noted elsewhere.

The pedigree text that is not bolded is sourced from gundogpedigrees.com. At times this website provides many valuable agate treasures about our past, but like all else in Magyar history come the discrepancies, the mistakes of others, the reality of what really happens when those who are left to survive get to tell history. dlb)
