New VCA Historian, Changing Of The Guard

Once again with the passing of the VCA Historian Torch from older to newer of our "magyar campfire storytellers", the Vizsla breed welcomes another historian, MaryK Chelton Ph D. of Long Island, New York to its fold.

"If history and archives are our community memories, they should be shared with all comers to the breed.
I see the VCA Historian playing a major role in this." MaryK Chelton

Academically MaryK has a Master's degree in Library Science & a PH D in Communication & minored in History. She has published over 50 articles. The academic department where MaryK works has an active Archive department where she can get archival advice. She is conveniently located to New York's AKC Office headquarters.

MaryK has been in the breed for sixteen years & been active in every Vizsla club she has belonged to, understanding a large part of "paying dues" is to pay back what you learn to newer Vizsla peoples.

2010 proves to become very interesting for the world of MaryK Chelton. Not only does she have a new focus on the Vizsla world, but she has a new puppy with a hunting pedigree. She is indeed, searching for clear-blue magyar skies and looking for them in all the right places.

MaryK's views for a Vizsla Club Historian are....

Keeper and organizer of all historical publications of record for the VCA.

Soliciting personal donations of archival material that will augment VCA and breed history.

Authoring articles on VCA and Vizsla history for Vizsla News and/or the VCA website at frequent intervals.

Identifying, if possible, financial sources for digitizing VCA archives.

Selecting archival and historical materials for displays at VCA Nationals, AKC Pet Expo, the AKC Eukanuba Show, etc.

Identifying significant Vizsla historical material held privately for breed history research.

Collaborating with non-VCA organizations of importance to VCA and breed history for information and records of mutual interest (e.g. NVA, NAVHDA, Bird Dog Museum, etc.)

Collecting regional/affiliated Vizsla club historical materials of interest for VCA and breed history.

MaryK replaces Michel Berner (Mira Vizslas) from Wisconsin, who has served as VCA Historian since she first volunteered in 2004. Michel is also owner of the online database "The Vizsla Dual Champions", her Mira Vizsla website which hosts history as well as vizslasunlimited.com website where one can find more Vizsla information.

Michel is a second generation Vizsla owner and daughter of Wanda & Thomas Berner (both deceased)(Strider Vizslas). The Berners acquired their first Vizsla in 1969. Since then the two Berner women & their men, have followed ladies' hearts.....with happy, healthy, often handsome & accomplished field Vizslas. Tomorrow, one can find Michel busy with her latest VCA job working with the paper trails of the fielding Vizsla.
